One thing that comes up over and over again is sceptic question on Shopify and SEO. First of all, there is no reason why Shopify should be doing worse on Google than any other site. Google has a lot of factors that are taken into account while ranking pages, there is a nice overview here:
The technical aspects, listed in “Architecture”, are all handled perfectly fine from Shopify.
What is really important though is to keep the reputation that has been built up over time is kept when you migrate from another system to Shopify. The key to take over that trust you have earned so heavily is to setup a specific link structure to tell Google that your content has moved to a new URL (URL, not domain, cause you will probably also move the existing domain name to Shopify)
The technique to do this is “301 redirecting”. Google explains this here: https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/93633
This task should not be underestimated. If you have a big site with several pages, a blog, collections and products, you need to set up a file (excel…) and create a map with the old URLs and the new URLS:
With such a page you can go to your SEO Expert of choice and ask him to set this up on your old webserver.
